SDCA Announces Leadership Academy to Empower Future Leaders
The South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association (SDCA), in partnership with Farm Credit Services of America and South Dakota Corn Utilization Council, proudly announces the launch of the SDCA Leadership Academy.
The SDCA Leadership Academy will cultivate the next generation of influential leaders and shape the future of the cattle industry. This exciting new program will foster industry knowledge, enhance leadership, improve communication skills, and promote mentorship among emerging leaders. The program will drive sustainable growth and positively impact the beef production industry by equipping participants with critical skills, knowledge, and networks.
“Leaders in our industry must understand the unique challenges faced by all segments of the industry – from the cow/calf producers to feedlot operators, packers and retailers,” said Eric Jennings, SDCA past president and chair of the SDCA Leadership Academy Steering Committee.
“A comprehensive understanding of these various segments and regional experiences, coupled with effective communication, is essential in today’s dynamic landscape.”
Participants in the Leadership Academy will engage in a series of events, tours, interactive seminars, and experiential learning opportunities. Guided by seasoned cattle industry veterans and experts, participants will connect with fellow professionals, industry leaders, and potential mentors. This environment will foster the exchange of best practices, expand professional networks, and allow opportunities for addressing industry-wide challenges.
Applications for the SDCA Leadership Academy are now open through September 1st. To be eligible, applicants must be members of SDCA, at least 21 years old, and actively involved in the South Dakota cattle industry. |

Market Update
July 5, 2024
A review of this past week. Light fed cattle cash trade volumes in the South at $190 live which is steady with the previous week. Thus far, there has been a light test in the North at $198 live which is, again, steady compared to last week.
In the boxed beef markets, the cutout moved higher this week with the Choice cutout increasing $6.51/cwt and the Select cutout adding $1.68/cwt. Expect demand for middles to begin to soften though end meats should remain well supported. Tighter supplies, however, will likely reduce the rate of the seasonal decline in prices before demand starts to pick back up in August.
Feeder cattle traded mainly $2 lower to $1 higher, calves were mostly $3 softer to $2 firmer, and market cows were predominantly $2 lower to $1 higher. Corn finished up 3 cents on the active December contract. |
